The Hwalchun-dong Community Center, located in Hwalchun-dong, Gimhae-si, designed by Chang Myung Architects of Chang Myung Group, won the grand prize at the 11th Gimhae Architecture Awards. The Hwalchun-dong Community Center was selected as the "best building of the year" and won the grand prize for its excellent accessibility and landscape through appropriate horizontal and vertical segmentation.
Gimhae City held a contest for the 11th Gimhae Architecture Awards from August 2 to September 30, 2010 to contribute to the improvement of the urban landscape by discovering excellent creative buildings and to motivate the construction of beautiful buildings. A total of 13 works applied for the contest, and on October 28, 2010, one grand prize, two excellent prizes, and two encouragement prizes were selected through the judging committee for the participating works.
The Hwalchun-dong Community Center has a civil service room, a conference room, and a reserve military company headquarters, and facilities such as hobby classes, fitness centers, love rooms, aerobics rooms, and reading rooms for residents' welfare and leisure. The building consists of one basement floor and four ground floors. After the completion ceremony in February 2010, the Hwalchun-dong Community Center is currently playing a central role in improving the convenience and quality of life of residents of Hwalchun-dong.
Chang Myung Architects that designed the Hwalchun-dong Community Center was awarded the grand prize and plaque from Gimhae City. Chang Myung Architects, was elected in the design contest of the Hwalchun-dong Community Center in 2008 and was in charge of designing the Hwalchun-dong Community Center.
